Comet C/2017 F1 was discovered on 20 March 2017 with Mount Lemmon survey, that is about 8.5 months before its perihelion passage. This comet was rather rarely observed until 17 February 2018.
Comet had its closest approach to the Earth on 24 December 2017 (3.695 au), less than a month after its perihelion passage.
Solution given here is based on data spanning over 0.92 yr in a range of heliocentric distances: 4.95 au – 4.500 au (perihelion) – 4.54 au.
This Oort spike comet suffers moderate planetary perturbations during its passage through the planetary system; these perturbations lead to escape the comet from the planetary zone on a hyperbolic orbit (see future barycentric orbits).
