Comet C/2017 B3 was discovered on 26 January 2017 with LINEAR survey, that is about two years before its perihelion passage. Some prediscovery images of this comet were found: taken on 1 and 10 of April 2016 by Pan-STARRS 1 telescope (Haleakala). In 2020, this comet is still observed.
Comet had its closest approach to the Earth on 19 August 2019 (3.480 au), about a 6.5 months after its perihelion passage.
Solution given here is based on pre-perihelion data spanning over 2.14 yr in a range of heliocentric distances from 8.98 au to 4.49 au (23 May 2018).
This comet suffers small planetary perturbations during its passage through the planetary system; its original semimajor axis is shorter than 5,000 au (see future barycentric orbit).
