C/2008 S3 Boattini
more info
Comet C/2008 S3 was discovered on 29 September 2008 by Andrea Boattini during Mt Lemmon Survey, that is almost 3 yr before perihelion passage. Pre-discovery observations taken with Mt Lemmon Survey (on 18 December 2007 and 27 December 2006) and Catalina Sky Survey (on 4 December 2007) were next found. Thus, this comet was observed 8.6 yr during ten oppositions in a range of heliocentric distances: 12.4 au – 8.015 au (perihelion) – 11.7 au.
Comet had its closest approach to the Earth on 30 September 2011 (7.075 au, almost four months after perihelion).
This Oort spike comet suffers tiny planetary perturbations during its passage through the planetary system.
